Portrait of Roberto Braga

About

Hi, I'm Roberto Braga. I work on growth at Resend. Before that, I spent many years building and growing companies in Brazil.

I started this newsletter to write down what I'm learning about growth, startups and venture capital: what worked, what didn't, and what I'm still figuring out. Writing helps me think, and I hope some of it is useful to you.

How I got into growth

Mostly by accident. When I co-founded BX Blue, we needed someone to acquire and retain users, and I thought my analytical side could help. I've been working on some version of that problem ever since.

Where I've worked

Resend (2026–present). I joined Resend, the email platform for developers, as a Growth Marketer in September 2026. People already come to Resend and stay. My job is to understand what's driving that and help make it repeatable. After selling a company and working inside larger ones, I missed the pace of a startup. This newsletter is sent with Resend, too. (The team wrote a kind welcome post when I joined.)

Reddit (2024–2026). I worked on Reddit's growth in Brazil, mostly through content and partnerships, alongside people in growth, communications and community. I learned a lot about localization, communities, and using AI to help content travel across languages.

PicPay (2023–2024). After PicPay acquired BX Blue, I joined their team to work on organic growth for the loans business: SEO, app stores, CRM and content.

BX Blue (2017–2022). I co-founded BX Blue, a lending marketplace in Brazil. We went through Y Combinator in 2017, and I worked on growth through email, SEO and paid acquisition until PicPay acquired us. Most of what I know about growth, I learned there.

IPe Engenharia de Redes (2010–2016). My first company, a network security firm serving businesses and government clients. It taught me how to sell, and how hard it is to build anything from scratch.

What I write about

  • Growth: organic acquisition, SEO, email, content, and launching products in new markets.
  • Startups: the messy parts of founding and scaling a company.
  • Venture capital: what I've learned from raising money and working with investors.
  • AI: practical ways I use it in my work.

Other things

I grew up in Tocantins and live in Brasília. I studied Network Engineering at the University of Brasília, which is also when I got hooked on email as a technology, long before it became my job. For a few years I helped organize Startup Weekend events around Brazil.

Outside work, I like writing and reading investigative journalism about sports and tech. I still do most of my analysis in Google Sheets. I speak Portuguese and English, and I'm slowly learning Spanish.

If you want to say hi, send me an email or find me on LinkedIn.
